Summer 2009 Events

Fridays @ 5:30 Writers Series Returns!

Join us on Friday, June 26th, when Connecticut writer Mary-Ann Tirone Smith is our first speaker! Author of Girls of a Tender Age: a Memoir, Masters of Illusion: a Novel of the Connecticut Circus Fire, and her newly published Dirty Water: a Red Sox Mystery, Smith will talk about her books and writing. This year the Friends have lowered the price of tickets to only $5 each, with still the offering of hors d'oeuvres and winebar before the Guest Writer begins. Afterward, there will be time for a Q&A session and book signings.

On July 24th, Connecticut mystery writer, Rosemary Harris, joins us on the Back Lawn for her talk about her mystery series featuring retired media exec Paula Holliday, who trades in her heels for garden clogs and opens a gardening business in the 'burbs. Her first mystery, Pushing Up Daisies was nominated for the prestigious Anthony Award for Best First Mystery Novel of 2008!

2009 Summer Reading Program: Be Creative at Your Library!
Starting Monday, June 29th, the summer fun begins for all our school-aged children, complete with reading game sheets (schools distribute) and weekly prizes awarded! A whole slew of events are planned throughout the summer, so check our website or our BLOG for updates!

The American Girl Club
The AGC meets on Wednesday, June 3 from 3:30-4:30pm, with an afternoon planned of making an old-fashioned toy for your AG doll, so come join us!

Preschooler's Storytime
Storytime meets on Mondays and Thursdays, 10:30am--11:15am; recommended for ages 3-5. This is a fun time for little ones to listen to stories, make a simple craft and play with other children. NOTE: June 8 and 11 are the last storytimes for the summer; will return again beginning the week of September 14th!
