Friends of the Rathbun

The Friends of Rathbun is a volunteer group which supports the Library in a variety of ways, such as special fund-raising events or donating volunteer hours in The Book Nook. Through their time and talents, the Friends help the Library expand its programs and services to the community.

Where Does the Money Go?

The Friends contribute funds monthly so that the Library can purchase new books and provide programs for the Children's Department. Also, the Friends help with special projects, such as the purchase of several custom-made bookcases for the Main Room in 1996.

The Book Nook
The Book Nook is the used book sale room that the Friends maintain in the lower level of the Library, and each year these sales generate additional funds for the Library.

Fridays at 5:30 Summer Speaker Series
This is a special program that the Friends coordinate each year, bringing such notable writers as Dominick Dunne, Larry Bloom and others to the Library for a convivial yet informative time on the Back Lawn. Other activities on a yearly basis are the Annual Plant Sale in May and the Annual Farmers' Market throughout the summer months.

How Do I Become a Friend of Rathbun? Simply stop by the Library and pick up a membership form -- it is that simple! A basic donation of $25 brings the Friends' Newsletter to your door announcing upcoming events, often with discounted ticket prices.
